Katie is in her early 20’s. She is a Celtic Harpist and vocalist who
has just completed a Modern and Medieval Languages degree at Oxford
University. She is now pursuing a professional career in music.
Ever since the age of 10, Katie has been singing and playing with her
Celtic harp, the clarsach, and has performed for a variety of
audiences. She has made solo appearances on BBC1 television and live German
television in 2000.
Katie has played on behalf of the Scottish Tourist Board in Washington D.C.
and New York, and performed in her own show in the Edinburgh Festival
Fringe. 
Katie's
repertoire covers both traditional Celtic music and the more
innovative combination of harp and voice for popular contemporary song. Her
aim is to introduce the image of the Scottish harp to a mainstream
and worldwide audience and prove that the bagpipe is not Scotland's only
musical treasure!
The Celtic harp which is the instrument Katie plays
is called a clarsach - the Gaelic word for 'small harp'. The
small harp is Scotland's oldest instrument and has been on the music scene
ever since the 8th Century.
Although the Celtic harp's popularity diminished after the Middle Ages it enjoyed a revival in the 19th and 20th Centuries. However its greatest period of success has been in the last 20-30 years and Katie wishes to continue a broadening awareness of the clarsach by creating a modern sound with her voice and this ancient instrument.
